Safe Supervision of Geotechnical Sites

The Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974 and CDM 2007 provides clear instruction regarding the duty of care of employers to it’s employees and specifies that all workers and supervisors must be competent and suitably trained.
Equipe and RPA Safety Services have developed an ideal partnership which ensures that this course is focussed, technically correct and delivered to the highest standards. The course is delivered by RPA Safety Services under their license, using their team of Chartered Occupational Health and Safety Professionals. Together, we provide a unique IOSH certified course for the Drilling and Geotechnics industry entitled ‘Safe Supervision of Geotechnical Sites’ . This course provides the only alternative to the IOSH Managing Safely course, SMSTS and CITB/Construction Skills courses as it focuses on hazards below the ground as well as above the ground whilst at the same time providing certification which meets the competency requirements of CDM 2007.
The content has been modified and enhanced to provide a totally unique and relevant Health and Safety course for the industry and is suitable for anyone who is or will be expected to run sites where geotechnical works are being carried out.
Avoiding Danger from Underground Services
This IOSH certified course comprises a comprehensive one day appreciation of the adoption of Safe Systems of Work, Safe Digging and best practice working methods and procedures required to minimise the danger from underground services, and injury to the operative including the operation of a CAT & Genny.
The course provides an overview of the current legislation and guidance documents and their requirements including the requirements of HSG 47 and CDM 2007. The course will deal with the responsibilities of the individual and who contractually must provide information, how to operate a safe system of work and how to utilise equipment to locate underground services. The day will also include discussions regarding best practice when carrying out excavations and the signs to look out for which may indicate the presence of services.
Site Safety and Management
The success of any Site Project for a Contractor, Designer and Client is measured not only in commercial terms but also on the efficient management of the site which is measured in terms of safety and environmental records, programme, control of logistics and effective team work. In addition, legislation further dictates that every member of the team has a duty to protect the health, safety and welfare of their employees, and any other people who might be affected by the work that is being conducted. Each employer must do whatever is "reasonably" practicable to achieve this objective and each individual must also be aware of their responsibilities.
The course comprises a comprehensive overview of the legislative requirements to be complied with as well as the practical safety and environmental considerations to facilitate effective site management and to enable every individual to carry out their work safely.
Basic Site Safety and Appointed Persons
The course comprises a comprehensive overview of the hazards and risks which staff may encounter on site together with a practical approach to First Aid as an Appointed Person. The course has been developed for the Geotechnical Community and therefore provides relevant training to the attendees day to day job.
